Getting Started

Welcome to Mappy

Mappy is an AI-powered map platform with four core tools — Map Maker & Freeform, Measurement Tool, Overlay Comparison, and Route Planner — plus a World Map for exploring real geography, and Projects for sharing your work with others.

1
Create your account
Go to mappytools.com/auth.html and sign up with your email and password. Your account gives you access to every tool and saves your work across all your devices.
2
Choose your tool
From your Dashboard, you'll see four core tools — Map Maker, Measurement, Overlay, and Route Planner — plus World Map and Projects under "World Map & Projects."
3
Save your work
All tools auto-save every 30 seconds. You can also manually save and name your work. Everything appears in your Dashboard.
4
Use the AI Assistant
Each tool has a built-in AI panel. Upload a map image and ask natural-language questions — the AI responds with measurements, analysis, and confidence ratings.
💡 Tip: Start with the Measurement Tool — upload any map image and ask "how long is the main road?" to see Mappy in action.

📏 Measurement Tool

1
Upload your map image
Drag and drop or click to upload. Supported: PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP.
2
Set map type and unit
Select the map type and unit. Add a known reference for best accuracy — e.g. "the road at the top is 200m long."
3
Ask questions
Type natural-language questions like "How long is the main road?" The AI returns measurements with High / Medium / Low confidence ratings.
4
Save your measurement
Click Save measurement to store results including your image, questions, and all AI answers to your Dashboard.

🔲 Overlay Comparison

1
Upload two images
Upload Image A (base) and Image B (overlay) using the sidebar upload buttons.
2
Choose comparison mode
Overlay — drag Image B on top with opacity control. Side by side — view both at once. Split slider — drag a divider to reveal each image.
3
Export or save
Click Export PNG to download the current view, or Save comparison to save it to your Dashboard.

🛣 Route Planner

1
Upload your map
Upload any map image as the background. Supported: PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP.
2
Draw your route
Click points to place waypoints one by one, or Freehand to drag curved paths freely.
3
Set your scale and read distance
Enter how many pixels equal one real-world unit. The sidebar shows total distance live as you draw.
4
Save or export
Click Save route to save to your Dashboard, or Export PNG to download the map with your route.
💡 Tip: For accurate measurements, zoom into your map image before uploading so the path has more pixels to work with.
Extra Geographical Tools

🌍 World Map

Explore a real interactive world map — pan, zoom, click countries, and switch between different views. No extra setup required, it's included free with your Mappy account.

1
Open World Map
From your Dashboard, find World Map under "World Map & Projects." It opens a full interactive map of the world.
2
Click countries, oceans & capitals
Tap any country to see its name, continent, region, population, area, and a Wikipedia summary. Tap capital city dots for city info.
3
Search countries
Use the search box in the top-left to jump to any country by name. Suggestions appear as you type.
4
Layers & map modes
Toggle Terrain, Satellite, Day/Night basemaps. Use the Layers panel for rivers, railroads, highways, shipping lanes, flight paths, political colors, and time zones.
💡 Tip: Use the Measure tool on World Map to find the real-world distance between two cities — enable Measure and tap the map twice.
Collaboration

🤝 Projects

Share your saved maps, measurements, overlays, and routes with other Mappy users, and decide who can view or edit them.

1
Create a project
Open Projects from your Dashboard and click + New project. Give it a name — this is the shared space others will be invited into.
2
Invite people
Inside a project, invite someone by their Mappy username or email. They'll receive a notification bell badge and can accept or decline — they're not added automatically.
3
Add your items
Use the Maps, Measurements, Overlays, and Routes tabs inside a project to add any of your saved items. The same item can belong to multiple projects at once.
4
Manage members
As the project owner you can change a member's role, remove them, rename the project, or delete it. Non-owners can leave a project at any time.
💡 Tip: Your Mappy username is assigned automatically when you sign up — find it in Settings → Profile and share it with people you want to invite.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Mappy free to use?
Yes! Mappy is completely free — all four core tools, World Map, and Projects are included with a free account. We also offer Mappy Premium at $2.99/month with extra features like unlimited AI, exports, and themes.
How do project invites work?
When someone invites you to a project, you'll see a bell badge on your Dashboard and Projects page. You can accept or decline the invite — you're never added to a project without your consent. If you don't want to receive invites, you can turn them off in the Invites bell → "Allow others to invite me to projects."
What image formats does Mappy support?
Mappy supports PNG, JPG, JPEG, and WEBP. For best results, use images at least 800x600 pixels. Very large files (over 20MB) may load slowly.
How accurate are the AI measurements?
AI measurements are estimates. Accuracy improves significantly when you provide a known reference (e.g. "this road is 500m long"). Each result includes a confidence level — High, Medium, or Low.
Are my maps and images saved securely?
Yes. All data is stored securely with Row Level Security — only you (and anyone you've invited via Projects) can access your work. We never share your data with third parties.
Can I use Mappy on mobile?
Yes — all tools including World Map and Projects work on mobile. Map Maker has a dedicated touch toolbar. For the best experience, a tablet or desktop is recommended.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Dashboard → Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and all your data — it cannot be undone. You can then sign up again with the same email as a completely new account.
What is Mappy Premium?
Mappy Premium is $2.99/month or $24.99/year. It includes unlimited saves, unlimited AI questions, PNG/PDF/SVG export, dark mode and themes, full font picker, Premium badge, priority support, and early access to new tools.
The AI isn't giving accurate results — what can I do?
Try: (1) Selecting the correct map type. (2) Adding a known reference. (3) Being more specific in your questions. (4) Using the follow-up chat to refine. If it persists, contact us at supportmappy@gmail.com.
I found a bug — how do I report it?
Email supportmappy@gmail.com with a description and screenshots. You can also reach us at @MappyTools on X.
